The Markup hires Reilly as managing editor

We’re excited to announce that Michael Reilly, a science and know-how journalist for almost twenty years, will probably be becoming a member of The Markup as its managing editor. On this function Reilly will assist refine and execute our journalistic imaginative and prescient, lead and handle the newsroom and its processes, and assist form our formidable and impact-driven journalism.

Reilly (everybody calls him Reilly!) has introduced an insatiable curiosity, a need to construct, and a real love for his colleagues and their mission as journalists wherever he’s gone. That’s included stops on each U.S. coasts for New Scientist, two startups, and an extremely rewarding run at MIT Know-how Evaluate, which was a two-time Nationwide Journal Award finalist throughout his time as government editor.

Whereas at Know-how Evaluate, Reilly pioneered the journal’s publication operation, established an award-winning podcasting crew, and edited numerous print and on-line options. He additionally led a number of long-haul investigations, together with efforts that exposed racial bias within the Division of Justice’s China Initiative (which finally led to the initiative’s demise) and a series of stories on the methods through which regulation enforcement businesses in Minnesota ratcheted up surveillance towards protestors within the wake of George Floyd’s homicide.
